This one is in the American Giants collection but we no longer have room for it at the museum and would like to find it a good home. Same rules apply to this sale as the Muffler Man. This Sale also ends on May 17

Muffler Man HISTORY  This original 14ft Bunyan was made by International Fiberglass in Venice, CA. A plate on his leg indicates he was made by IF and has a date of 1963 although it is possible he was made the following year. This particular giant was built for the Implement Specialty Co in St Louis. He also was used to advertise Lombard Chain saws in 1966 and had the name “Luke Lombard” on his shirt along with the “Implement Specialty Co” logo. It is unknown what year he left St Louis but by the 1980s he was in Oak Grove, KY spending time at the Jolly Green Giant pawn shop as well as Pistol Petes Pawn. In the 1990s he was purchased by a couple from Mortons Gap, KY and moved to their donkey pasture. By this point in time he was missing both his arms and head. In 2013 American Giants because restoration on the giant and it was their first restoration that propelled them into that buisness. Arms and a head were made for the giant and he was restored and returned to the donkey pasture in Oct 2015. For 10 years he has stood there after his restoration and still is in remarkable condition. His owners are ready to find him a new home.

Santa History – These guys are affectionately known as Freaky Santas and were made right alongside Muffler Men at both Prewitt Fiberglass and International Fiberglass and are believed to by sculpted by Bill Swan. Originally this Santa stood at the famous Dooleys Hardware in Long Beach, which had a number of these Santas and used them seasonally for a Christmas display. The giant was purchased in 1965 from the hardware store by a woman who did a seasonal Christmas display in her yard. Eventually her age made the task too difficult and it was relocated to Texas.

Its story took a turn in Kingman, Arizona, when a couple well known in the community for their elaborate holiday yard displays stumbled upon it at a garage sale. They purchased the Santa and added it to their own displays, giving it new life and allowing it to be enjoyed by neighbors and passersby for many years.

Eventually, the Santa made yet another move, this time across the country to Pennsylvania. In 2024, the Pennsylvania owner contacted American Giants to explore selling the statue. Later that year, in November 2024, the piece was purchased and moved to another location in Pennsylvania for storage. In Oct 2025 the Santa was moved to Re-Giant for storage.

The plan was to set it up at the museum but with space now being an issue and the Santa being seasonal we have decided to find it a new home. These Santas are hard to come by and a rare piece of fiberglass history. It’s important to us that the Santa goes where it can be on display and his story can be told. It is believed about 13 of these Santas still exist today.

INFO  Statue is roughly 12ft tall with an estimated weight of 150 pounds (could be more). Statue is complete and not missing any parts or pieces. Some parts of the paint job are faded or pealing. Buyer is responsible for transport. Seller will give up to 2 months for buyer to come get the giant. American Giants is available to help with questions and transportation if needed. HISTORY  This fiberglass bull statue is one of many similar bull statues made around the 1960s. It was mass produced to the point where dozens of these bulls still exist today although they are now considered vintage and are sought after. They are all about the same size, wear halters, and have their left hind legs in a forward position. Some of them like the one for sale here, were installed with signs in their side for advertising, while others did not of the signs installed. It is likely these statues were made by Sculptured Advertising of Sparta, WI. Research shows that the ones with the message board signs on their sides were either produced for Sirloin Stockade restaurants or ended up being used extensively by the chain. This and other bulls statue mascots was known as “Sir Loin.” Sirloin Stockade was established in 1966 in Oklahoma City. The original location had a bull statue and over the years the buisness grew to 80 locations in eight states. The bulls were built to represent Hereford cattle and were originally painted with red coats and white markings. They were often sold on trailers so that the statues could be moved around to different locations. This particular bull came from a place called “Wades Herefords” near Hugo, OK. Originally it was located in Oklahoma City, OK.

INFO  Statue is roughly 9ft tall with an estimated weight of 250 pounds (could be more). The bulls ear and horn have been reattached since the pictures were taken, holes in both sides from the message board being removed. The Bull still has the fiberglass plates under his feet for bolting down. Buyer is responsible for removal and transport. Seller will give up to a month for buyer to come get the giant. American Giants is available to answer any other questions you have or provide more information as needed. Statue is located near Checotah, OK

UPDATE!! – Logo discovered on chest reveals that this was no standard Bunyan but an oil giant made for Tulsa Oil in New England (not to be confused with Tulsa, OK). The giant originally had a white shirt and was one of three known giants used by Tulsa OIL and parent company Gibbs Oil in Revere, MA. The logo is still visible under the red paint on the chest of the giant linking him to the oil industry and making him a very rare survivor for the Tulsa gas stations. Full story and update can be found here with pictures. Special thank to Josh Sanders for historical research and discovery.

HISTORY  This rare Tulsa Oil muffler man has deep New England roots and a fascinating backstory that makes him one of the most historically significant giants around. He was originally ordered by Tulsa Oil and eventually owned by Gibbs Oil in Revere Mass. The company had a at least 3 of these oil advertising giants in the mid to late 60s and early 70s. He possibly was loaned to Boston’s channel 4 for promotional use and appeared on Rex Trailer’s famous kids western show “Boom Town,” but this is unconfirmed. From there he most likely spent some time on his back at Gibbs in Revere and was eventually moved to Lynn, MA, and set up at Seacrest auto dealership. At Seacrest, he stood alongside a chief muffler man, both attracting customers to the lot, and during this time the Bunyan lost his head either from a storm or vandalism, though the dealership preserved it indoors and later reinstalled it. Both giants eventually came down in the 1980s, with the chief moving to North Carolina and the Bunyan spending several years at the Topsfield fair before landing in a salvage yard. By the 1990s, he was moved again to another salvage yard in Amesbury, where he remained in storage for about 30 years. In 2019, American Giants documented and visited him for the first time, and in 2025 he was purchased and moved to Re-Giant’s restoration shop in Illinois. This is a true piece of Americana with proven Boston oil history, a rare opportunity to own an authentic Muffler Man with many stories behind him and a new life ahead. The old Tulsa logo is still visible on his chest. Special thank to Josh Sanders for historical research.

INFO  Statue is roughly 20ft tall with an estimated weight of 350 pounds (could be more). Statue has a broken foot and needs a restoration and is sold as is. All pieces are included in the sale and the giant is complete. Buyer is responsible for transport from Southern Illinois and Re-Giant can also be contacted for a restoration quote since the giant is currently being stored at the restoration facility. Giant is avaialble for emediate pickup after the sale but American Giants will give up to 6 months for buyer to come get the giant or transfer work to Re-Giant. This is considered a Bunyan version of Muffler Man but is one of about 6 that have the longer pant legs therefore making him one of a rare breed of Muffler Men. Statue is located near Marion, IL

HISTORY  This custom Muffler Man was made by Mark Cline in Natural Bridge, VA in early 2020. The giant was ordered in 2019 by a new food truck court being built on Route 66 in Springfield, MO. The idea was that a number of different food trucks would make this location on Route 66 their home and offer a wider range of food choices for travelers. Outdoor tables as well as an inclosed and covered building were on hand for rainy weather. Instead of finding an original Muffler Man it was decided it was simpler for Mark Cline to create a custom giant from a mold. The buyer wanted a giant chef holding kitchen items and wearing a big chef hat with Route 66 on his belt buckle. The order was made in the fall of 2019 and the first pieces were pulled from the molds in November of that year. By January Mark was adding the custom pieces the giant would hold and the chef hat. The giant was painted with a red and white shirt, blue pants and a white hat and was transported on Jan 26 and 27 to Springfield, MO. He was set up on May 11 and the food truck court opened shortly after. Because of the Covid outbreak and impact, the business like hundreds of others across the country, shuts down mid 2020 and never reopens. The building is put up for sale with the giant included because the owners hoped someone else would want the giant. Now five years later the owner is willing to separate the giant from the business and sell it separately.

INFO  Statue is roughly 21ft tall with an estimated weight of 400 pounds. Statue is complete and in very good condition. He comes with a chef hat and kitchen accessories. The giant is not an original so he does not come apart and is fiberglassed together as one unit. Buyer is responsible for take down and transport. Seller will give up to two months for buyer to come get the giant. American Giants is available to talk about logistics and transport and value. Statue is located on Route 66 in Springfield, MO.
